When we arrived, we bumped into Home Depot Santa Clause. We told him that we were looking to buy a nail gun to complete our project, and he took us to the right place. He showed us the different air compressor options (air compressor???!!! Yikes, can’t I just use some Double A batteries for this thing??) And he very frankly, without making any judgments of our ignorance, or trying to make a sale by taking advantage of our ignorance, explained to us our options.
The fact is, he explained, sometimes you have to pay a little more to get more. But, you’re young, and you can always just do it yourselves. The key is, don’t try to rush. Take a break, have a cup of coffee, enjoy your time together, you have all the time in the world to finish the project. Don’t put too much pressure, and you’ll get there eventually. Then, he led us to a $3.00 box of headless nails, which was our only purchase that day.
And so, on that trip to Home Depot, we got exactly what we needed. We came intending to purchase one thing, and someone with more experience than us gave us the advice and encouragement we needed to complete our project, and saved us a lot of money.
It reminds me a lot of our experienced with our exclusive buyer’s agent. Clearly, we didn’t have a lot of home buying experience. Or, more honestly- we had no experience. Many a salesman could have taken advantage of the situation. But, instead, we worked with an agent who gave us the advice we needed to get the home that fit our budget, which is practical for our family and that saved us a lot of money. I am very Thankful for our home, that I love so much, and for our honest agent who helped us find it.
Happy Thanksgiving!
